How to Factory Reset your Android Tablet
This guide will show you how to backup the data on your Android device to your Google account. You can later then restore that data back onto your device or onto another device. Scroll below the video to see step-by-step screenshots.
Firstly, make sure you have backed up your data if you wish to keep any of it. You can follow the guide here for instructions of how to backup to your Google account.
From the home screen, drag down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification page.
Tap the ‘gear’ icon in the top right corner of the screen. This will open the settings menu.
Scroll down in the menus to find ‘Accounts and backup’.
Tap on ‘Accounts and backup’ to open the menu.
Tap on ‘Accounts’ to open the list of signed in accounts.
For each account listed repeat the following steps until all accounts are removed. Tap an account to open.
Tap ‘Remove account’. This will unlink your account from the device.
Tap to confirm you wish to remove the account.You may be asked to enter the account password and/or your phone password for security reasons.
Repeat steps A through D until all accounts are removed from the device.
Return to the main settings screen, this can be done by dragging the notification bar down and pressing the ‘gear’ icon as done previously. Here near the top of the screen can be found a magnifying glass icon, tap it to open the search bar.
In the search bar type ‘reset’, tap the top result to open the ‘reset’ settings.
Here are the options to reset the device, to remove all your data tap the ‘Factory data reset’ option.
This will reset the device to be as if it just came out the factory. You be asked to confirm you want to reset your device and may be prompted to enter your device’s password.
The device will now reset. During the process it may turn off, this is expected and a normal part of the process. It is recommended you leave your device on charge while it resets as the process can take more time if your device has higher storage.
If you are sending a device in for repair, please remove any SD/SIM cards or cases as these cannot be returned.
